What do Mosquitos and Auto Rickshaws have in common?

Auto Rickshaws and Mosquitos - other than both being plentiful in Bandra, they are also both responsible for all the red bumps in my life - on my little red car from cutting me off and on me because mosquitoes think I make a great cocktail. One morning, this week, while I was driving little red car, cursing at an auto driver and scratching a bite on the way to work, I had product innovation come to me - what if someone created a mosquito repellent or a cream that comes embedded with something poisonous that when a mosquito bites you, it dies itself! Now it may sound morbid but then again, isn't that a great way to eradicate malaria and whatever other diseases that mosquitoes are responsible for? Now talk about Smarter Products for a Smarter Planet! Any genious scientists willing to take a "bite" at it?!

  1. If you are going to kill all the mosquito with your new cream (eventually) then who will buy your cream. You will be out of business.

  2. Skin is the largest organ for us. It is also semi permiable. Poison affects all creatures in almost similar fashion. Poison applied on skin will definitly reach the blood stream through the skin.

  3. I have to say - I really appreciate all the perspectives and insights on the mosquito topic - some scientific, some entrepreneurial! It begs the question, when real companies think of launching new products, do their product development teams have a mix of business and technology perspectives? Coming from a marketing background I always wonder how much market insights the development team has access to...I'm doing my part to interact more with them to share what I learn in the field. Any tips on how to keep the information flowing?

  5. Virginia, it will be very interesting to own an IBM mosquito repellent. Until then I like those electric racquets. They've got potential, there's a spark somewhere!
